A Clear Look at Invisalign Vivera Retainers

By Doctor Rothman | Invisalign, Orthodontics | Comments are Closed | 1 February, 2022 | 3

Any time orthodontic treatment is completed, retainers are necessary to maintain that new, beautiful smile. Retainers are in fact the most important part of the orthodontic process as they ensure that your sacrifice with braces or Invisalign was not in vain.

Following orthodontic tooth movement, teeth are not yet entirely stabilized in their new position, as it takes time for the bone and ligaments surrounding the teeth to retighten and hold them securely in place. Teeth have a certain amount of “memory” which can cause them to shift back to their original position.  If retainers are not worn as prescribed, the teeth can tend to drift out of alignment, and the beautiful treatment results can be compromised.

In my practice, I recommend that retainers be worn full time for 6 months immediately following treatment and then nightly after that. Ultimately, retainers should be worn for as long as possible, to ensure that your teeth stay straight indefinitely.

There are multiple retainer options, one of the newer ones being Invisalign Vivera retainers, which I am advocating more and more commonly in my practice. What is special about these retainers and why do I recommend them?  Let’s take a closer look!

High Quality Material

Vivera retainers use Invisalign’s patented SmartTrack™ material, for sturdy, effective retention of your smile.  This is a rather thick plastic material, designed to last for a longer period of time than other types of clear retainers. This durability generally allows them to last for many years without breaking, cracking, or losing their shape.

Comfortable, Esthetic, and Versatile

While Vivera retainers are thick and durable enough to resist breakage, they are also thin enough to be comfortable for regular wear, and they are smoothly trimmed at the gumline to avoid any pressure on the gums.  They are also sparklingly clear so highly esthetic and easy to clean and maintain. Additionally, they are versatile in the sense that they can be used after active Invisalign treatment but also following braces treatment, and even years after orthodontic treatment if old retainers require replacement.

Multiple Sets

The best part about Vivera retainers in my opinion is that they come as a series of 4 sets, top and bottom, for a total of 8 retainers.  This allows you to have backups whenever you need them, in case a set becomes lost, broken, or worn down over time. Each set of Vivera retainers is designed to last a few years, so with 4 sets you will be equipped for quite a long time.  You also avoid the possibility of any tooth relapse if you do lose or break your retainers, as you have an immediate backup without worry that you need to see the orthodontist right away for new ones.

Cost Effective

Because Vivera retainers include 4 sets, you're actually paying less per retainer than if you were to purchase only a single pair. This bargain set of 4 saves you money by purchasing more retainers at once.  It is definitely a worthwhile investment for the long run.

Easy to Fabricate

Advances in digital technology allow for seamless fabrication of Vivera retainers.  Gooey impressions are no longer needed, replaced instead by an easy and quick digital impression or scan of your mouth.  The retainers are accurately 3D printed from the scan which allows for well-fitting retainers. Additionally, the digital scan is kept on file, permitting ease for reordering if ever needed. Your teeth have no option but to remain straight!

In summary, don't let the investment you made on orthodontic treatment go to waste by skipping out on your retainers. Regular nightly retainer wear for life will help prevent the natural tendency of teeth to shift over time. The comfort, effectiveness, and convenience of Vivera retainers from Invisalign are a surefire way to maintain and protect your beautiful smile for years to come! Please call our office for more information or to set up a complimentary initial orthodontic consultation.
